New life to unique decor pieces

I love repurposed decorating—using unexpected treasures full of history and charm. I’m especially excited when I can rescue a previously discarded or forgotten item and give it a second life. I love repurposed decorating—using unexpected treasures full of history and charm. I’m especially excited when I can rescue a previously discarded or forgotten item and give it a second life. Just yesterday, a friend and I were reminiscing about pieces I would find on the side of the road or at a yard sale. I got a thrill from imagining its new purpose.

My grandsons have a bedroom at my house. I recently redecorated their room- transitioning the “baby-ish” decor to something that they could grow into for a few years. I was lucky enough to score some vintage pieces from my father-in-law, my parents, and my husband to create some special items to use in the room.

My husband scored this wooden wine shipping box for me. It served as the perfect little “secret hiding place” for some of my grandson’s favorite toys. I painted it, added a whitewash and some hairpin legs I ordered from Amazon to construct a unique bedside table. It still serves as a secret toy shelter when my grandson is visiting.

I found this antique military cooler in my father-in-laws shop. It serves as the perfect spot to store extra blankets and tucks in perfectly under the beside table.

When I went "shopping" in my father-in-law's shop, I also found this antique wooden oar that matched perfectly with the headboard he made for the boys' bed.

With "littles" there is never enough storage to house all of their treasures. When my parents downsized, I snagged this shelf that my mom had in her kitchen to display teacups. I painted it a striking blue and now it serves as a superhero parking garage.

The grandsons love their room, and so do I. I hope I can always find special pieces to decorate with and to make them feel as extraordinary as they are.
