Who knew that drop cloths could be so versatile? I recently redecorated my daughter's bedroom and wanted to change out pieces of her bedding. My sister actually gave me the idea of using a drop cloth runner as the bed skirt. She had done it in her guest room and it was beautiful! The color and texture of the drop cloth was exactly what I was looking for and the fact that this was a NO SEW project was a bonus. Here are the materials you will need:

Take your mattress off the bed. You will be stapling the drop cloth directly to your box spring. Start on one side of your headboard. Place the end of the drop cloth on the box spring and staple. You will need to determine how much of the bed skirt you want pooling on the floor to know how much drop cloth should go up on your box spring. You will also need to decide the size of your pleats so that you can work consistently around your bed. This is how it will look as you are working:

Continue stapling around your bed making sure your length stays consistent. You can easily pop the staples out with a butter knife if you mess up. Fair warning: your hamstrings will be screaming at you the next day if you stand the whole way around your bed...so consider this a DIY workout as well. You're welcome. It will be worth the soreness! This is the finished product:

I was so pleased with the bed skirt that I decided to make curtains as well! You will need a full size drop cloth for curtains. I knew that my curtains would remain open so I took one drop cloth and cut it in half lengthwise. (sewing will be required on the cut edge if you do this, but not if you use 1 drop cloth per panel). I also used clips to hang them from the rods (again, no sew!) I was super happy with this project as well. Take a look:

  • Difficulty level: Easy
  • Time investment: A few hours (for either project)
  • Cost: This will depend on how many drop cloths you need for your bed size or your window size.

    1. Thank you so much! I have also made a curtain for my laundry room. (pics coming soon in the muslin wreath post). I love how easy it is and how nice they look!
